Now that the summer is in full swing, you are getting ready to enjoy the patio season. However, mosquitoes are a surefire way to ruin your perfect summer evening. The uncomfortable scratching after their bites, their constant buzzing – they are a literal pest. Fortunately for you, we’ve done the research to ensure that you don’t have to deal with mosquitos around your patio area.
Tip #1 – Avoid being outside certain times of the day
Yes, it might not seem fair, but certain points of the day see far more mosquito activity. Their heightened activity comes during dawn and dusk. Go inside for a half hour to an hour and avoid the mosquitoes at their most active.
Tip #2 – Have a fan with you
It might sound strange to some people but having a fan on your patio does more than just cool you down during the warmer days. Because mosquitoes are not particularly strong, they are unable to fly around the circulating air from the fan. Having a fan blowing near you is going to push the mosquitoes away.
Tip #3 – Make sure to use mosquito repellent
If you are prone to mosquito bites, mosquito repellent could be the perfect solution to your problem. There a wide range of mosquito repellents on the market, so find the one that best fit your needs and your particular preference.
Tip #4 – Avoiding fragrances
Did you know that mosquitos are attracted to sweet-smelling fragrances? By not wearing these when you go outside you are going to limit your ‘attractiveness.’ If you plan on spending an entire day outside, avoiding fragrances is in your best interest.
Tip #5 – Make sure to remove their breeding grounds
Did you know that a mosquito only needs about a ¼ inch of water to create a breeding space? Any still or standing water that you have is going to make your patio area mosquito city. Some common water sources that you may not realize include clogged gutters, kids’ pools, small ponds, and even bird baths. If you do not want to deal with mosquito bites any longer, make sure to clean those gutters and remove any standing water sources.
If you are one of those unlucky people that mosquitos are attracted to, make sure that you follow the steps we mentioned above. That is going to help you avoid those flying nuisances and allows you to get back to enjoying your patio area.
